John Ruehlin retired from Naval service as a Rear Admiral in 1986. His most recent active duty assignments were Commanding Officer of the Naval Supply Center Oakland, Commanding Officer of the Aviation Supply Office Philadelphia, and Commander, Defense Personnel Support Center, Philadelphia. He served as Supply Officer aboard USS Enterprise during the Vietnam conflict.

Upon leaving the Navy, John served as Senior Vice President of Great American Bank, a $15 Billion financial institution in San Diego, CA. As the Director of Institutional Investor Relations, he was the Bank’s principal interface with Wall Street and other major financial centers around the world. As the Bank’s Director of Internal Consulting, he was involved in every facet of the Bank’s internal operations, with a focus on efficiency and cost reduction.

In 1990, John was recruited by Right Associates, an international career management and human resources consulting company, to serve as the General Manager of the company’s San Diego office. In that capacity, he worked with Fortune 500 corporations providing management consulting services and career transition programs for private sector executives. In 1992, John was asked to develop government career transition programs and has since designed and delivered career transition programs for civilian and government organizations throughout the country. In the capacity of Senior Vice President and the Director of Government Relations for Right Associates, he played a major role in developing programs that address the special needs and requirements of military and civil service personnel undergoing career transition. John also provided management consulting for government organizations involved in base closure, realignment, relocation and downsizing.

In 1994, John launched his own business, Ruehlin Associates, providing Career Planning and Management assistance for senior officers, including Flag and General Officers, and senior enlisted personnel of all services. He and his associates also design and conduct career transition programs for senior civil service personnel, including SES, worldwide. In addition to his Career Transition Management business, John serves as an expert witness in private sector legal cases involving wrongful termination, as a conference keynote speaker on the subject of career management and planning, and conducts Junior and Senior, Officer and Enlisted Career Decision workshops.

John has served as Vice President of the World Affairs Council of San Diego, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and on the Board of Directors for the USO and the Family Literacy Foundation. He received his undergraduate education at Ohio State University and earned an MBA from Michigan State University.

He and his wife Peggy reside in Coronado, California and have three children: Dave, a Captain in the Navy Supply Corps; Rick, a retired Navy SEAL, and Kim Pittner, a professional educator . . . married to a retired Navy Fighter Pilot!
